Hepatitis Awareness Event Ideas

* If you have ideas that can be added to this list or would like to coordinate an event with other agencies, reply to this email.

Site Events

§ Coordinate a special event

o Health fair or open house

o Viral hepatitis screening day. If you do not have on-site testing, partner with an organization that provides testing off-site or on a mobile unit

o Viral hepatitis education breakfast, lunch or dinner

o Memorial for people who have passed away from viral hepatitis

o Party

§ Set up a table with viral hepatitis posters as a backdrop, public health brochures to distribute, and a knowledgeable staff member, peer or patient advocate to answer questions

§ Play viral hepatitis education videos in waiting rooms throughout awareness day. (See ordering section below)

§ Ask a patient living with viral hepatitis at your organization to speak to health education groups

§ Create an art project, such as a mural or a song, to commemorate Hepatitis Awareness Month



Staff Education & Awareness

§ Write your own organization: Viral Hepatitis Proclamation

§ Resolve to ask every patient about their risk for viral hepatitis during the month of May

§ Provide staff at your organization with a list of conferences, seminars and events and encourage them to attend during the month of May. (See Staff Education section below)

§ Add Viral Hepatitis Awareness Month to your organization’s staff meeting agenda

§ Arrange for a speaker or training on site for your staff. (See Onsite Training section below)



Local Community Awareness & Outreach

§ Send a force of Peer Outreach Workers to the streets with viral hepatitis public health materials

§ Distribute viral hepatitis information and vaccination information to local cultural or faith based organizations, schools, housing associations, businesses, and cultural centers

§ Include Hepatitis Awareness Month information in your organization’s newsletter, weekly bulletin or local community newspaper or e-letter

§ Include a hepatitis patient story in your agency’s news-letter, weekly bulletin or local community newspaper

§ Post free viral hepatitis screening and vaccination locations in your community

§ Contact your local elected official and ask them to recognize World Hepatitis Day

§ The World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) has developed campaign materials for World Hepatitis Day 2010. The materials can be viewed and downloaded from the World Hepatitis Day website .

§ Includes Poster, Postcards, Web Banners, Fact Sheets, & Logos in multiple languages. A website will soon be available with ‘edit-able’ versions of the campaign materials.
